WASHINGTON, D.C. – National History Day (NHD) announced this morning the 36 teachers selected as Behring Teacher Ambassadors. Two South Carolina teachers
“National History Day has been both a consequential and transformative part of my career,” said Turner. “It has been my pleasure to work with hundreds of students in the last 20 years on their projects for district, state, and national competitions. NHD embodies my teaching philosophy which values the historical process over mastery of content. I look forward to the opportunity to promote and expand the scope of the program in South Carolina.”
“I am excited beyond words about being selected as a Behring Teacher Ambassador for National History Day,” said Bohnenberger. “NHD is an extraordinary program for research and presentation of historical topics by students and this is just the basics! It is also an international contest in which students can showcase all their hard work and win great prizes! NHD is way ahead of its time in the concentration of common core standards that has always been an emphasis within the program.”
The teachers selected have shown outstanding creativity, commitment, and inspiration in developing students’ interest in history. Each regional winner will be awarded $1,000 stipend for their participation and service as an ambassador. Middle and high school teachers are nominated by their administrators, peers, or self for the award. Candidates must be classroom teachers interested in NHD programs, who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom, or be past Behring Teacher award winners. www.nhd.org
