Spring Testing Information
New laws passed by the South Carolina General Assembly have resulted in new tests that will be administered during the Spring of 2015 throughout our state. On April 28th through April 30th, students in grades 6-8 will take a new, timed test called ACT Aspire. In Richland Two, our students will take the paper and pencil ACT Aspire tests for writing, English, reading and mathematics. They will not take the optional ACT Aspire test for science that some districts may use. This new test will help teachers understand where their students are succeeding and where extra help or academic focus is needed. By having a better understanding of a student’s skills, abilities, and knowledge, parents and teachers can determine what students need to know to be successful in school in the future.
On May 7th and May 8th we will continue to take SCPASS for science and social studies. At Dent, our students will take the paper and pencil SCPASS test. SCPASS measures student performance on the South Carolina Academic Standards, with test results being used for school, district, and federal accountability purposes.
For more information on ACT Aspire, visit the Richland Two Assessment Web page by visiting http://tinyurl.com/R2testpage or the S.C. Department of Education’s ACT Web page at http://www.ed.sc.gov/agency/pi/act.
In an effort to make testing go smoothly, please note students may not bring into the testing location any electronic device; this includes cell phones. Please ensure that your child gets a good night’s sleep each night prior to the test, and eats a nutritious breakfast on the mornings of the test. Finally, please be sure that your child is at school on time on the days of testing, as testing will take place during the first portion of each day. It is our expectation that each student does his/her personal best each day of testing.
Make-up tests will be administered to students who are absent one or more days of testing.
If you have any questions regarding testing please do not hesitate to contact Shanitra Deas, Assistant Principal, at (803) 699-2750 ext. 72013 or [email protected].
